The educational mining trail offers the opportunity to discover a lot of interesting facts and also traces of mining activity directly in the places where it once took place. There are three circuits with as many as 8 stops with information panels. They will introduce you to the history of the mining of copper and iron, uranium, and gypsum, present exceptional mining works, but also defunct Spa in Novoveská Huta or the narrow-gauge railway that once led up the Rybníky valley to below the Devil's Head Hill.
The old mining history of Novoveská Huta is documented by old heaps, abandoned mining works, remains after compaction, historical pictures, but also written documents and old mining maps. The first historical documents about copper mining in Novoveská Huta are from the 13th century and about o iron mining from the 16th century.
The educational trail starts in Novoveská Huta near the main bus stop. It has a total length of 18 km and is situated mainly on the slopes of Muráň, a dominant and extensive hill, towering over the town of Spišská Nová Ves. There are 3 marked routes. Red, which is basic, yellow, which is a shortcut and connects the crossroads under the quarry with the upper Bartolomej mining gallery, and blue, an additional route with a beautiful view of Malý Muráň. The path leads through rugged natural terrain with the possibility of completing it not only on foot but also by bicycle or, in winter, on skis.
